Family, Infant and Toddler Program (FITP)

Part of a national and state-wide program, our staff serves families in Washington County with children birth to 3 who have developmental delays or medical conditions that may lead to developmental delays.   FITP services are provided at no cost to the family and only with the inclusion and permission of the family.
FITP services include:

  • Advocacy Developmental evaluations
  • Developmental therapy
  • Nutritional consultation
  • Speech
  • Occupational and physical therapy
  • Hearing and vision services
Our staff works in collaboration with area school systems and an array of other agencies in Washington County.  Anyone may make a referral to FITP - child care providers, physicians, family or friends - with the understanding that no steps will be taken without the permission of the child's legal guardian.  FITP staff may be reached by e-mailing fitp@fcwcvt.org or by calling: (802) 262-3292 X104 or (800) 270-4231.

Reach Up

Reach Up services are provided for teens and young adults, ages 14 - 23, who are pregnant and/or parenting and are receiving TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families) benefits to assist them with transistion from welfare to economic sef-sufficiency. There is no charge to the family.
Reach Up Home Visitors can:

  • Help parents identify and pursue goals that can help them move from welfare to self-sufficiency, such as
    • Returning to high school Enrolling in GED study Obtaining a driver's license
    • Securing housing
  • Help accessing available money for fees, clothing, car repair and registration and other expenses
  • Help parents connect with other programs of the Family Center and community agencies
  • Work as advocates, teaching life skills and guiding young parents through the sometimes overwhelming bureaucratic details.

Minor parents are automatically referred. Parents ages 18 - 23 can sign up any time. Referrals are made through the Department of Children and Families, by directly calling our Reach Up staff at (802) 262-3292 X107 or by e-mail jgallagher@fcwcvt.org

Success by Six & School Age Home Visiting

All families in our servic area are eligible for free home visiting services, regardless of income, if there is a child in the household age birth - 12.  Home visits are provided upon request to offer parents education and support around parenting concerns.  This includes making connections with community programs and resources.

Visits are intended to address needs not met by other service providers and are made on a short-term basis, usually three to ten sessions. Home visitors are committed to our family centered philosophy of respectful interactions with individuals and families, modeling and supporting healthy relationships.  For more information e-mail familycenter@fcwcvt.org or call (802) 262-3292 X106.

Welcome Baby

Welcome Baby is a home visiting program for families with new babies in Washington County.   Welcome Baby offers parents of newborn and/or newly adopted children a visit to provide gifts and materials on a full range of resources available to area families.  Welcome Baby visits are voluntary and there is no charge.  Visits are available any time within the first year; however, most parents find the resources most valuable within the first few months after birth or arrival of the child.  Families who would like to schedule a visit can e-mail annieg@fcwcvt.org or call (802) 262-3292 X501.
